Patreon’s Changes (Patreon)

Hey guys. In case you haven‘t heard, Patreon announced that they would roll out some new changes regarding how they take pledges.

TL;DR - in addition to your pledge, Patreon will start charging an additional 2.9% plus 35¢ per pledge. Probably starting next December, unless they change their mind.

This is something MOST creators don’t support, myself included, but at the moment Patreon plans on enacting this with next months pledges.

The changes haven’t been enacted yet, and there’s still time for them to change their mind, but if they don’t, your usual pledges from your favorite creators might be slightly more expense than it used to be.

The best analogy I’ve seen is that if you‘re pledging $1, you’ll be charged around $1.39, and the creator your supporting will get around 95¢.

As for my page, I’m waiting to see if Patreon will roll back on this implementation. Like I mentioned, myself and MANY others aren’t exactly thrilled about this, and there is currently a lot of pressure to not go through with it. But if it does, there might be a bit of an upcharge with your pledges.

I might adjust the pledge levels to compensate for these changes, but I still want to see how this plays out.
