The dungeon meanders deeper down the stairs, leading into impressive chambers adorned with marble statues and pillars, braziers and and a carved throne. A wide hallway strays below, leading deeper still, though errant passages lead to adjacent natural caverns.

East of the regal chambers, the dungeon vaults are flanked by a pair of gargoyles keeping vigil over the old, abandoned iron mines. Wooden beams reinforce the tunnels of rock clearly hewn from their natural form, through which worn tracks lead deeper into the mines.

South of the regal chambers, the symmetrical masonry of the old ruins begin to give way to smooth limestone. Water drips throughout, and the soft glow of bioluminescent mushrooms illuminates row after row of logs inoculated with spores and at various stages of growth. Slick, split logs lay flat through the wet, mucky biomass, forming a trail that leads to a quaint wooden shack built against the cavern wall.

To the east of the fungal farm, and south of the mine are the dangerous natural tunnels known as the dark pits. Previous seismic activity here has created a rift in some of natural tunnels, opening deep pits into the lower levels of the ruin complex.

In case you didn't catch the last Megadungeon post, this is the second in a series of 12 dungeon levels I'll be releasing throughout the year as sort of my own interpretation of the Dungeon 23 challenge. These maps are designed to seamlessly align with one another, and the end result will be a massive dungeon complex of roughly 365 rooms, complete with variants.
