Newsies- Thank you so very much for such a fabulous reaction to a fantastic musical that I love so much, Clint! I grew up watching this musical ever since it first came out, and I've loved it ever since too. I didn't see it in the theaters, but I watched it on TV whenever it came on. And then on DVD and finally streaming services came about, allowing for me to watch Newsies whenever I wanted to. And I've always loved it! Both Kenny Ortega and Alan Menken... Two giants (a phenomenal dance choreographer and a beloved music composer known for making a lot of music for the classic Disney movies) within the movie industry that I have grown up with and have loved for all of their projects. I grew up watching all of the beloved Disney classics time and time again, so I know Alan Menkin and his music very well. And I also grew up loving much of Kenny Ortega's work, including his works with Michael Jackson, whom I still love to this day. I love both Kenny Ortega and Alan Menkin very much! Christian Bale is absolutely phenomenal throughout this movie! I absolutely love him in this role as Jack Kelly!! His accent, his singing and dancing skills, to just his acting skills alone. I absolutely love him! We all know Christian Bale as a top notch actor everyone loves. From movies such as The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Prestige, Ford v. Ferrari, American Psycho, etc... Few people remember he was ever in Newsies, which is a long forgotten movie and role for Christian Bale nowadays because of all these other movies' popularity and the money made from them all. Newsies will always be a movie I recommend for anyone who either just loves musicals, or who love Christian Bale, along with some of the other famous actors nowadays who were in this classical musical as well. Actors such as Bill Pullman (Bryan Denton, as well as the President from Independence Day, and Ed Masterson in Wyatt Earp), Robert Duvall (Pulitzer, as well as Boss in the movie... Open Range, which I recommended for you some time back too), and Ann-Margret (Medda Larkin). All of whom I love as well! I love each of the newsies throughout this movie as well. Especially the main characters alongside Jack Kelly. David, and Les. I love Racetrack, Kid Blink, Spot Conlon, Mush, Crutchy, Boots, etc... They're all great young actors, as well as singers and dancers! And I love their names made up for them, and their accents! David, Les, and their sister, Sarah, are all great! As are their parents too. As for my favorite songs throughout this classic musical... It's really hard for me to say, because I love all of these songs so, so much! However, if I have to choose a few, I would say that some of my absolute favorites are Carrying the Banner (opening and closing song) sung by all the Newsies, Seize the Day sung by the Newsies, The World Will Know sung by the Newsies, Once and For All sung by the Newsies, and Santa Fe sung by Jack Kelly, which I have to say might just be my absolute favorite song throughout this musical. I absolutely love it!! Christian Bale sings and dances marvelously! The music, singing, and the dancing... It's all absolutely phenomenal!! The dancing especially, as the dancing and choreography is what this musical is remembered for. It's all incredible!! And the talents these kids have and show in their dance is sensational!! And lastly, regarding the true story this musical is based on... There really was a newsies strike in 1899 when all of the papers lead by Pulitzer and Hearst, jacked up their prices of the papers that the newsies had to purchase in order to sell for them. All so these greedy newspaper Gods could make more money for themselves. However, the newsboys back in the day banned together themselves to strike against them, which lead to all of the child laborers, and soon all of the city's laborers, all banning together as well. And they won!!! Which is really incredible!! Because how the laborers and especially the children laborers back in these days were treated, was so wrong. These newspaper giants and other bosses didn't care what happened to the children and people working under them. They didn't care that these poor newsboys would wind up living on the streets and worse... all so that they could make more money. Jack Kelly, David, Les, Bryan Denton, and Medda, as well as all of the more known newsies... They are only fictional characters created for this movie. However, I suspect that there was a real leader that led the newsies in the real strike that truly occurred back then. He's just unknown. The only real characters from this movie were Pulitzer and Hearst, Teddy Roosevelt, and possibly the other newspaper leaders that sat down with Pulitzer at his poker game the night of the rally. But what a powerful story of having hope for a better future!! I absolutely love, love, love this story, and this beloved musical!! :) Thank you very much for watching Newsies for me, Clint!! I am so happy you loved this classic musical so much!! I really appreciate you watching this movie for me. And I am now excited to request the Broadway Musical that is available to stream on Disney Plus for you to enjoy sometime soon too!! I think you will love it as well!!
