In the show, they talk a lot about purity, peace, the greater good, and humans being evil monstrous yet stupid livestock, as the justification for the genocide that is taking place. It is with great terror that as a history buff, i can see the clear connections to some of the genocides that humanity is responsible for. It could be a WW2 allegory or perhaps just the real world which has informed the framing of this show and how the vampires would have felt about the war. Regardless, some really good writing overall.
