I know it sounds weird but given the common tropes in animes and other fantasy TV shows of heroes just being way too overpowered, its nice to know that Trevor can be defeated early on in a low stakes fight whilest really inebriated, it definitely raises the stakes that he could die at any moment during his adventures. The writers are not so attached to him as a character, and as a result they can sacrifice him looking super cool for a few moments, for an opportunity to tell a better story. To show his growth and demonstrate his abilities over time when compared to what I would consider his lowest low in his life up to this point.
