Here's something that I thought lost to the mists of time - a short clip from a sitcom pilot I wrote in 2006, starring Mark Heap, Tim Key, Ingrid Oliver, Marc Wootton, James Lance and others.

It was off the back of this that I asked James and Ingrid to be in Biffovision.   Mark Heap played a desperate weather reader who yearned to be a newsreader.

There's loads about it that's great, but I can see why it wasn't commissioned for a series. It's big, and broad, and silly, and that wasn't the sort of thing Channel 4 really did back then.

It also lacks a bit of atmosphere - and knowing what I know now, I'd have loved to have a crack at re-editing it. Or directing it, even

But... there are lots of moments that I adore. These two scenes in particular, mainly because of Mark Heap, who is just sublime. Of all the pilots I did, it was this and Biffovision which felt closest to the sort of thing I wanted to make.

I'm not going to ever post any of this publicly - legally, I'm not sure I'm allowed to (so keep it quiet) - but I'll be sharing more clips with you from this and the pilot I made with Dylan Moran and Maxine Peake...

Excellent! Lovely bit of slapstick at the end, as well.

The Gaming Muso

Excellent physical comedy there! I can relate to his character so much at the beginning....until he reads the news 😂

ah ha ha I liked this.

WhatHoSnorkers

I am looking forward to watching this. Mark Heap is always great...and it's super-secret so I'm in with the in-crowd!

I would have commissioned it. And if that was the only good scene? Then I would show that scene 10 times. I am that kind of commissioner.

I bloody well love mark heap

Didn’t think I’d see this again.

It does seem slightly desolate without the laugh track. I can see why they thought to try it.

Re-Enthused

I tried for ages to get something commissioned. Unlike you though my problem came from a lack of talent, which I eventually realised. Seeing this which was also rejected just shows how far away I was :)

Excellent, thank you for sharing. I would have watched it if it contained more of that daft silliness.

Fantastic!

This was great; such a shame Channel 4 rejected it - made me laugh, anyway! Terrific physical comedy from Mark Heap. He's always good.

Brilliant. Mark on top form there. Also, Selina Griffiths sounds exactly like her mum! It's uncanny.

Tyronne Mann

Bloody hell why did I not see the resemblance sooner - I had literally no idea that is who her mum was but it is blindingly obvious now.

Perhaps re-edit it into a found footage episode set around the last day(s) of a tv studio closing down.

Jake Laverde

Oh wow! Would love to see the whole thing!
