Hey folks! For those who don't know, I've been working on this Balto video for months now and the video itself has been stuck in my uploads for about a month due to Universal blocking it over and over. I *think* the current draft of the upload should be available by this coming Saturday (the 13th of May) but I wanted to share the original version of the edit for those who want to see it immediately

Thank you all again for the support and I hope you enjoy the video!

Thank you for allowing us to see the Director's Cut which YouTube and Paramount won't let us see.

Meeper23

Thanks for the upload. I'm curious if the sequels were financially successful, then what could they have come up with for a continuation. Balto IV: The Son of Steele, Balto V: Stop the Fight, Balto VI: The Legacy of Balto (Balto is a grandfather)...

Glorious goose option there

The video was fantastic and I appreciate all the work y'all did.

I'm paying 2 WHOLE DOLLARS to watch you talk about Balto for over an hour and a half... and it's worth it. Good luck eventually releasing it to the masses!

Anonymous

I gave it a watch! Will be interesting to compare it to the Youtube Edit once that finally goes live xD

Mistakenly deleted original post because I was on the mobile app and the text space wasn’t working… After finishing the video, this truly is one of his best videos he and his team has ever made. The history of the real story about the men and his dogs taking a daring journey through the snowy storms of Alaska to deliver the medicine to save the children is fascinating and a miracle of Man’s best friend. It’s definitely sad about the history of Balto and Tango. As well the making of the first film which I wished it was more closely base on the real history and not changed things up just to be a “kids film” which this film would be the same if they didn’t had Balto name on it. I definitely agree the two sequels are so bad… I want kids to grow up with “good” films and shows that shouldn’t be made to grab money… or at least not expose them to scenes that aren’t really appropriate for them like that Goose… I was still a kid back when those two sequels came out and I think I’ve only ever seen the 2nd and not the 3rd film. Not sure why but I’m totally bless at least 😅glad I always liked the first film which is amazing underrated gem of the 90’s. Universal Studios is way over their heads about shutting down your review. Your video is basically in the Fair Use which showing the scenes do help understand your complaints since like these films are so old why would kids these days care about them except for the first film… Maybe they fear you will hurt their brand? But like… Balto is so small compared to other franchises that they should take notes why the sequels were bad… I hope things get better because they basically are watching you which is very strange for them to do. I guess they don’t like you giving their products reviews that shows if they are actually bad 😅

So excited to watch this! I really hope Universal stops hassling you about the YouTube version (as a YouTuber myself, I’ve had to do “Patreon Cuts” of my content as well 😕) You do great work on your channel and opened my eyes to a lot of really great shows over the years (like with Lackadaisy recently! I LOVED the pilot.) Your channel really shows how animation is a medium enjoyed by all ages. Looking forward to seeing your future videos and all the hard work you’ve been putting into them!!

Ah, Balto. The film that launched a thousand wolfaboos - and I say that with all my love, as I was (and to an extent still am) one of those myself. I haven't watched the original in a long time, but I remember loving it as a kid. I never really appreciated until now how solid a lot of the characterization was, or the use of color, so thank you so much for calling those to my attention. I'm going to have to rewatch it sometime soon. As for the sequels... I watch the second one exactly once and thought it was "eh," and got maybe ten minutes into the third before quitting from sheer boredom. XD Digression: two other launchers of many a wolfaboo include Wolf's Rain (which was my actual gateway despite having seen Balto first) which is decent, and *shudder* the Alpha and Omega franchise which is... not. I'm glad wolf fans now have more quality films like Wolf Children and Wolfwalkers to enjoy as well.

I paid to see this and I'm so happy I did. Incredible work as always. 😎👍

Subbed just for this and to support your fight

Paid 2 bucks to see the video. No regrets. Balto was one of those movies that occupied my childhood conscious.

Holy moly, Saber wasn't kidding about all the work put into this- This is a labor of love! Fingers crossed that Universal will FINALLY get off your back.

SleppyPanda

I do not mind giving some support to see your great content

I actually worked with some of the animators who worked on Balto (Denise Dean), a few of them based in the UK would work on Ethel and Ernest years later (another gorgeous 2d animated feature film that I was assistant editor on) and they told me that when they finished Balto they spent quite a bit of time prepping to do an animated Cats feature film that fell through.

I should note that Brendan Fraser actually did record all of his lines as Steele. I wonder if the audio of this alternate Steel will ever surface?

Sam (Mantabel)

Wow! And to think Universal doesn’t want anyone to see this masterpiece. So rude. 10/10 best video.

Marquiduhhh

Saw the email last night, waited until morning so I could DoorDash my fav food to enjoy with lol

You put some hella work into this dude and you made your best video yet! remember my sister loving these movies but it reminds me a lot of the Swan Princess sequels. . . Will that ever happen in the future?

Anonymous

I, personally, enjoyed Wolf's Quest but I can understand why you hate the sequels. Plus I'm very happy to help you get your money after this mess with Universal

Sean Astin's career went to a lot of places after LotR. He's got a few movies on Pure Flix too

Ahaha I LOVED wolf quest as a kid. (Which makes sense, given my favorite movie is Brother Bear that I watched approximately a million times as a tot) I rewatched wolf quest in high school and was pretty horrified. The sequels were so bad, it soured my memories of the first movie. Which was wild, because it is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time--I was daily active on the website Balto Source for multiple years, drawing characters and recoloring stills from the movies. I hadn't done a rewatch of Balto since I was that obsessed 5th grader, but I rewatched it recently as a background comfort while I cleaned around the house. I ended up just enthralled and didn't get any cleaning done. Balto is SUCH a good movie. Simple doesn't mean bad. So many scenes and music bits from it bring a tear to my eye to even think about. And yes, a huge part of that is nostalgia, but it's nice that at least that childhood love held up. Thank you for an awesome video!! People really slept on Balto, and they still do. It always makes me so happy to see it get recognition.

I'm also curious if the creators of the first Balto film got the wolfdog stuff from White Fang. There are quite a few similarities (Wolfdog is shunned by society and ends up falling in love with a domestic dog, etc.)

Arillius

"This universe has dog sledding in it!" No one tell him.

Best $2 I have ever spent 😁

I Watched Balto a long time ago, I Do wanna rewatch Them. This Movie Grew with me o.o And Fairly Enough The whole thing with The original Film Balto was the only good thing that came from it, With Fang being the perfect bad guy, He made it through as half of the film, Balto trying to save The Girl from the Virus with the sled dogs and Making a Long Journey throughout this whole Reign, It was what I Enjoyed the most, The Sequel Wolfs quest was just a horrible Adaption to the Balto franchise, I Even own the movie at home as a VHS, And I Remember When I Seen it many years ago oh god, the low quality Animation was just crap, Then there was The Final movie I've seen Half of that On Cartoon Network when it aired twice and Completely forgot about it, Its boring :/. I Do Have to agree with Saber on it.

Bigylan

Definitely a great video essay! I'm very happy that I never grew up with the sequels. In fact, I had no idea they even existed. Also, please do a review on why the sinking of the titanic is suitable for animation. I would really love to see why people thought that it was "perfect" for a kids film.

Yo fuck Universal for this petty takedown bullshit. Your video deserves to see the light of day. Ain't nothing being said that isn't true by a longshot. They're just scared of your power and influence Saber.

Tolinar

Here to watch it :3

Newsom J Gibson

LMAO. Definitely worth the price of admission. I hope for your sake they tap out soon. Lived in Alaska when Balto came out, and never knew about the sequels. One minor quibble is your collaborator's pronunciation of "Wasilla" as "wah-silla"; It's "Wa- Sill-Ah", rhymes with Godzilla, but I will probably be the only person to ever notice or care.

I’m here, and it’s beautiful

Came for Balto, staying a Patreon member for Saberspark!

I watched this movie over and over again as a child, and I'm so very happy to see the amount of effort put into this video! Thank you for making this, it was more than worth the Patreon subscription to experience.

nick schafer

I like how your critics don't just point out what doesn't work, but how it COULD have worked. Never know whom that could inspire

saberspark

Thank you! Trying to be more proactive on suggesting improvements for our reviews instead of just ripping into stuff

I tried SO HARD to say the names correctly and I figured I would mess up somewhere but oh well! Thank you for the correction and smiling since the word sounds close to Godzilla ;p

I'm getting a sign that says "Because of it's privacy settings, this video cannot be played here." did I miss it?

best 2.48 ive spent

Great vid, def worth the money. Sorry its been so rough to publish. From what ive seen its transformative. The clips are like less than 15 seconds, most without audio. Ludicrous backlash from them. Keep up the good work!

Anonymous

This video is absolutely incredible. Sad youtube and universal made you chop it up.

In case you haven't found a solution yet, it worked when I loaded this post in Chrome and not in Firefox.

Best $2 I ever spent. I loved Jenna as a kid and wanted a dog just like her. Even as a dumb home-video-sequel-loving kid, I was disappointed that Balto 2 and 3 did not feature my favourite doggo.

Anonymous

If there's some good that came out of this video blocking fiasco, at least I'm sure you got some new patrons who came to see the unedited video, including me! However, I understand your frustration with YouTube especially since you worked hard on this video, and I hope you can successfully get a version of this video on YouTube soon! I was more familiar with the second movie since I had it on vhs as a kid, but had never watched the first until I was a teenager. The original Balto is exceptional. I enjoy the second movie for nostalgic reasons, but I can see how much of a drop in quality it is from the first. The magic plot-line makes no sense at all. And I agree that a lot was just handed to Aleu, and it would've been more satisfying if she had earned her place as a wolf pack leader. I only watched the third movie today because I had never seen it before and wanted to in preparation for watching your video. I was not missing out. The movie overall was meh. I was very disturbed by Stella and kept wondering how is this sensual goose in a movie for kids lol. Thank you for you and your team's efforts and research in putting this video together!

It didn't work in chrome for me, but works in Firefox. Ironic no?

I just got done watching this, and I want to say thank you to the whole Saberspark team for putting this together. I recently watched the first Balto film for the first time and was blown away by it. I didn't know there was a deleted scene of Steele dying, but I'm kinda glad it wasn't included because that would've been a bit too grim. Thank you for watching the other two films so that I don't have to.
