It's easy to see why this movie didn't stand a chance at the box office, and why Disney had zero faith in it: poor marketing (announced just two months before its release...what the heck?!), pop songs that add nothing to the movie, character designs that were all over the place, and so forth. It's no wonder why it was given a January release...since releasing a new movie in January is practically giving that film a death sentence, it's as if Disney just wanted to give the movie as little chance for success as possible. I can sort of also see why critics weren't too kind to the movie...what could have been a worthwhile fantasy movie for kids ended up being a bit of a mess. And yet based on this review, you, Saber, feel that, while the movie wasn't so great, it doesn't deserve quite as much hate as it got. For you, Strange Magic was more "OK" or "Meh" than truly awful, and with the improvements that you mentioned (i.e. getting rid of all the useless pop songs), it could have been a fair bit better. I'm glad that you were willing and able to give the movie a fair chance, and in the process, discovered that it wasn't quite the train wreck that critics made it out to be. I'm quite pleased that you were able to make my Friday a little better with this top notch Strange Magic review, Saber.
