I like the comparisons to King of the Hill (lowkey makes me want to rewatch the series. It was my ultimate comfort show in high school). What makes KotH great, in my opinion, is that it’s written with nuance and charm. It’s not pandering to one side of the political spectrum over the other, and it kind of pokes fun at both sides. I grew up in a conservative family who loves KotH. I’m a liberal person with liberal friends who love KotH. The fact that the show manages to provide common ground between both sides of the political spectrum through its charming characters and wit is a massive testament to the show’s writing. It achieved something great. Mr Birchum is the anti-King of the Hill. It achieved none of that.
