I like how you talked about Redwall in this! Redwall was my series growing up and I think it'd be really fun if you watched some of the animated series. They did a series for three of the first books: Redwall, Mattimeo (sequel to Redwall) and Martin the Warrior (prequel to Redwall). They're kind of long, so I get not wanting to watch the full things, but they're a fun watch and I think pretty faithful to their books which is kind of rare in book-to-animation stories.

The movie glosses over just how bad the Pure Ones are. Moonblinking was a brainwashing tool. It took time and the owls would slowly become completely controlled. Meanwhile, they also have the owls sleep on their backs and let the bats drink their blood all the time to make them weaker and easier to control. Kludd was also pretty evil right away in the books. His personality is already leading him to being bad and was emphasizing his natural evil nature. It felt very toned down in the movie.
