How much diversity is in Degrassi's writing department? What makes them afraid to tackle racist storylines? And why, oh why, did they put a white girl like Frankie Hollingsworth at the centre of a racism plot? 🤷🏻‍♀️

This week, I asked the Degrassi Fan Community 'what do you think about Frankie's racism plot line on Degrassi: Next Class?' 🎬

Mari & Tish both reached out to say they were eager to break down Frankie's storyline together. Both agreeing that Shay Powers should've been at the centre of the story instead!

So, what makes Shay such an important character? How do Mari & Tish see themselves reflected  in Shay? And what advice would they give the Degrassi writers about black storytelling in the future? ✍🏾

Catch up with two passionate & creative Degrassi fans on their socials!

But for now, let me know what do you think about the racism plot line on Degrassi Next Class?! 👇

I did not include any shoutouts or sponsorships on this episode as I wanted it to be a stand-alone episode for Black History Month.
In good news, all of your shoutouts will be on Annie Clark's episode next week! 🤗

I think Shay has a unique perspective as I know a lot of people in my area would say she's like "an oreo" because she "acts white" and she didnt even understand how what Frankie did was rascist like she had to ask her dad. Also Degrassi didnt have other main black female characters really..its sad but true. I wish we wouldve gotten more of her.
