Hi everyone,

A huge thank you as always for your continued support, and an enthusiastic welcome to all new Patreons! A quick update this month. It's business as usual here in the lab - some new textures, a new tutorial along with some halftone patterns, and a tutorial that I’ll have wrapped up in the next few days!

Custom star halftones and more

Hard Mix is back! This approach to halftones can be really addictive to experiment with. If you missed it, be sure to download the additional pattern set for Expert Level Patreon supporters.

TUTORIAL COMING NEXT WEEK

Animated Illustration Effects in After Effects

I'm really looking forward to sharing this one. It's an incredibly simple setup that gives a hand-drawn animation vibe to even very simple animations. Getting close to finished on this one - stay tuned!

NEW TEXTURES

New heavy rolled ink textures added to the Ink/Paint section of the site, plus some additional sparkle and metallic foil textures. I’ve added a Foil subcategory to the Paper category. There are still a few foil textures hanging out in the Metal category (including a fairy popular gold one). I rarely re-categorize things, but may move those over to Paper>Foil in the coming weeks.

A FEW NEW FAVORITES:

That's it for the moment. I'll email a link to the new tutorial next week as we get into this last month of the year...

Cheers and thank you!

Hi, Brady Your tutorials are awesome, I've learned a lot. Most of your tutorials are on vintage look effects, any chance for more modern look effect tutorials? Some examples: https://retoka.com/the-ballet-dancers https://retoka.com/skylines-v3 https://retoka.com/dua-saleh-crossover-ep-cover

Hey thank you! And ya, that’s some really cool work. I’m definitely down to do some more modern looks and will keep that in mind. It can be a little trickier to land on abstract (or maybe more fine art) techniques that a lot of people would find applicable to their work. And I hesitate to copy a current artists work - who’s livelihood maybe depends on a certain aesthetic… But I’ll keep that in mind, and will keep an eye out for certain things that I see applied across a lot of modern work that would make a good tutorial! Cheers and thanks! Brady
