Merry Christmas patrons! 2023 is almost expired and it's time to look forward to what 2024 will bring. I had a fun idea for today's post....a music theory workout with the CIRCLE OF 5ths. This workout is a segment from my full MUSIC THEORY FOR GUITARISTS course.

The circle of 5ths is one of the most powerful concepts in music theory. It tells us which notes sound good together. Play along with me in this video as I go through a popular song for every key. Artists include, Metallica, Rush, Dio, Dream Theater, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd and much more!

I'd love to hear your feedback on this video and what you'd like to see more of in the future. Merry Christmas from SHRED CLAUS muhahaha!

But.... I don't get what chords I can use in that key? Does it always go Maj Mi mi Maj Maj mi dim and what if I want the chords to sound right if I'm trying to use a modal melody like Phrygian... So many questions. I'm in the right place though I think.

You're right Bosco, that's how the chord progression works in the major scale. If you want to understand modes on a deeper level, this video tells you everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDvTjpgO8GU&list=PLTnuI0sQ4fpxsZnAasaKD5vNWPQ-72-v8&index=4&t=514s

Mr. Shred, how should one truly master one key? I understand the C major scale as is but where do I go from there?

If you understand C, you can understand any key! Use the same process you used for C on other keys. Learn the number of sharps and flats, the scale, sequence of chords and improvise with it muhahah!
