Metallica by far. They are my favourite Metal band. Their songwriting is far superior to any other Metal band. I like Megadeth and Black Sabbath too, but Metallica just know how to riff harder than anyone else. Testament would be a close 2nd I believe. All in all, every band contributes their own slice of excellence. They are all great bands and that is why we love Metal. It's a genre within a genre. \m/...

(changed my vote to Slipknot in this 'modern' list). But I would say that Machine Head is the biggest in modern metal. Biggest sounding at least. They have pushed it as max as it can go in the modern heavy hitter department while still remaining honest vocally and instrumentally. Probably my favorite ever metal band and is who I would have easily voted for had they been on this list. There is absolutely no question that it's a no brainer choice. Or Pantera.

testament is a band that doesnt get enough credit imo. the riffs are awesome and the leads/solos are amazing. Alex Skolnick is an amazing guitar player and deserves to be up there with the best
