Hey, have you ever noticed that Hammett is pretty much Thrash's best all around lead player? I mean yeah Poland is jazzier and Friedman is more exotic, but Kirk has near perfect melodic contour, improvisation and thematic creativity where whatever the song called for in '83-90 he nailed it (with or without wah). Like he said he used some Whole Tone scale for part of his leads in "Battery" and I can't hear it cause of how fast it is. Or in "Master Of Puppets" there are strange Locrian, almost Japanese arpeggios he starts his solo with (If you add the E and play it from there upwards it sounds like a Asian pentatonic scale). You should do a video mythbusting that Kirk is only known for Pentatonic phrasing, when he uses modes probably more than any other Thrash soloist in his day. Poland and Friedman have too much chromaticism and overlapping keys for me to say their playing is strictly modal. Kirk on the other hand stands out in this way.

Hammett's use of chromaticism is obvious as well, but he doesn't overdo it to me like they do.
