Here's an in-depth master class on Neoclassical Metal Composition. Inside the video you'll learn about the most common harmonic devices used by composers like Bach and Mozart. I've written two etudes that demonstrate the essential harmonic devices in the classical genre. These etudes use shred guitar techniques like sweep picking, hybrid picking and legato. These ideas are the perfect way to give your guitar solos more structure and direction.
-Harmonic Minor Primary Chords
-Neapolitan Chord
-Augmented 6th Chords
-Secondary Dominants
-Secondary Diminished 7th Chords
-Cadential 6/4 Chord
-Harmonic Minor Modes
The idea is to give you a starting point to incorporate these ideas into your own music. I'm not concerned with churning out Mozart clones but maybe you'll find your own personality in a few of these concepts. Remember, if it sounds good, it is good.
As a complete aside, I've also included an original orchestration I did for each of the 7 Diatonic Modes. I get asked about the original music I write, so here's an example. Can you hear all 7 modes?
