I have been contemplating to get into classical guitar. I get that for the last fast part the pick makes sense. But could you have played the middle part easily using the classical-style fingering for the right hand?

Sure you could...it's fun to try different articulations to get different tones. There's going to be a lot more classical etudes once I get my nylon string back from the shop
