When Major Chords Sound Evil (Patreon)

I've been obsessed with Gustav Holst's, "Mars The Bringer of War" from his Planets Suite lately. It's certainly one of the most metal scores of all time. Everybody steals from this piece, including Metallica, in Am I Evil. Stolen from Diamond Head. Listen to the whole thing and you'll hear Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath as well. In This clip, Holst uses major chords moved in parallel motion to achieve a very wicked melody. This is actually a common effect in black metal as well. It's important to remember there's a C Pedal tone droning throughout the entire section. This produces very unique glimmers of dissonance and consonance.
