I'm quite a fan of Handel's music and countertenor voices are often used. A countertenor has a normal bass voice but doubles the frequency (ie up an octave) by tightening his vocal cords. Strangely, despite the fact the frequency is similar to that of a female, it's quite easy to detect that it's a male singing falsetto (boy sopranos are similar). So it's not as straight forward as you may think for a male to take a female singing role undetected - it takes more :) Our hero has to do more - perhaps run as fast as possible might be best for him if not for us
