A new year is upon us, and so I took it as an excuse to draw this dragon-themed piece with Jess and Alicia. (Jess really does have an unfair advantage in costume contests.)

I hope you're having a good 2024 so far! For those who don't know, I got pretty sick with COVID in the back half of December, but I've been recovering nicely this week. Aside from that little episode, I had a wonderful 2023, so I consider myself lucky. And I'm looking forward to bringing you another year of fun comics and art!

Question: did I miss what happened to Fidgital after all or are we still waiting for this mystery to be resolved?

You haven't missed it! I just have rather eccentrically not written that story yet. So back when I showed Fidigtal die, it was very early into the "new era" of the comic. There had only been two post S&F stories set in Newport... the Dev and Jess Christmas comic, and the "Inhuman Relations" story about Jess's dating life. While writing "Inhuman Relations", I realized I was really enjoying it, and wanted to do more comics about Dev and Jess and their life in the new Newport... stories about humans and inhumans living together! So I decided I would rewind the clock, and properly introduce the new setup like I would at the start of a book. I picked my core cast of Dev, Jess, Gert, and Fidigital... as well as the new Saucy Hippo performers like Cynthia, Alicia, and Ruby. And I decided I'd write some stories to establish their lives, jobs, relationships and personalities. Then, I would ultimately build up to a murder mystery about Fidigital. When I decided that was what I was going to do, I decided to include the tag ending of Fidgital dying as a little teaser of the future. I figured I would then making Fidgital's looming death a running gag throughout all the stories. I still think that was a funny idea, but the truth is, it has taken me longer than expected to get to the part where he actually dies lol. Especially because I've kept flipping between the new Newport stories and other side projects. So maybe it was not a good idea to show Fidge's death so early, haha! However, I will be finally tackling that story this year. When these stories are all collected in a book, they will be arranged in chronological order. So the original "Inhuman Relations" story will appear AFTER all the stories I've done since, and immediately before the chapter about Fidgital actually being dead.
