S&F Extra - May 2022 (Patreon)

It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In the gallery above, you'll find the final version of each piece, as well as some animated GIFs of how some of them came together.  And down here, I'll provide some info about each one!

Gamer Fuzzy and Platformer Characters
The complete list of gamer Fuzzy's components: Ratchet's ear, Mario's hat, Starly's bow, Headdy's feather, Spyro's horn, Gex's sunglasses, Bub's right arm, a combo of Scrooge's cane and (Hollow) Knight's nail, Samus' chest armor,  Kazooie's wing, Shovel Knight's left arm, Megaman's arm canon, Quackshot's plunger, Rayman's shirt, Klonoa's ring, Crash Bandicoot's jorts, Yoshi's tail, Sonic's right shoe, and Shantae's left shoe. WHEW!

Fuzzy's catchphrase here was taken from an old gaming-themed t-shirt I used to sell. I've included it in the gallery above! Unfortunately, I'm not able to offer this one anymore... while I sell reprints of most of my old t-shirt designs in my TeePublic store, TeePublic thought this one would make Nintendo mad. Haha!

At the end of the gallery, you'll also find large versions of our Barbara, Bubsy and Samus portraits!

Sundrop and Moondrop
This commission features two characters from the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise! Any fans here? I have never played one before! But I had fun drawing these two.

Cyllene
Straight outta Pokemon Arceus, here's Cyllene! The commissioner specifically requested that she be smiling... I gather that's not something she does often. (No, I haven't played this one either! I guess I have been too busy playing five million platformers.)

Grogu vs Frog Thor
You'll find a full making-of GIF for this commission in the gallery above! As you'll see, the original sketch was revised to make it more clear that Grogu is trying to eat Grogu, and not just yelling at him. Fair point!

The commissioner was the one who suggested this particularly mashup, but I must admit, it feels grimly appropriate. Anyway, I had a lot of fun drawing it!

Dog buds
The commissioner of this piece requested I draw their dogs a little less realistically and more like cartoon characters so I could capture their personalities. This was the result!

Hairdos
This is a page-full of me experimenting with giving Dev different haircuts! I'm not planing on changing her regular look, but I have been tossing around an idea for a Saucy Hippo project that involves alternate versions/personas and thought I'd experiment! Ideally, I'd want a design that is instantly and clearly distinct from the original, but not so different that they seem like a completely different character. (The lower of the two on the far right is probably my favourite of these.)

Cynthia pin-up in progress
These are pencils for a Cynthia pin-up commission I'm currently working on! I should have the finished version (and a variant or two) ready for the next Saucy Hippo update. But I thought I'd share this sketch here because, well, I was working on it when I was writing this post, and thought it was turning out nice. Pow!
