It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In the gallery above, you'll find the final version of each piece, as well as some animated GIFs of how some of them came together.  And down here, I'll provide some info about each one!

Platformer Heroes
In the gallery above, I've shared a making-of GIF of our latest platformer pieces, as well as large versions of each individual drawing.

You'll notice one extra drawing here... Yumi, from Ape Escape 3! Yes, I actually drew seven characters this month... but seven characters didn't fit on a grid very well, so I decided to save her for the next batch of six. But I figured I'd give y'all a sneak peek!

Emet-Selch
Speaking of video game characters... this fella here is Emet-Selch from Final Fantasy 14! I drew him at a recent convention. I'm, uh, not sure why he is holding Baker the corgi, but that is what the commissioner requested, so that's what they got!

Comic Process
Here's the full page art of a recent comic -- today's, actually! In the gallery, you'll find a full making-of GIF for this page. This one was drawn entirely digitally, but many recent comics are a mix of both digital and on-paper drawing. (I particularly prefer digital for drawing things like skyscrapers and cityscapes.)

Anne and Sprig
It's Anne and Spring from Amphibia! I don't think I ever posted the colour version of this piece here. (Side trivia: did you know that I named this TV show? My friend Matt is the showrunner, and at one point during development he asked me if I had any title suggestions. He wound up picking mine! Where is my check, Matt?)

Star Wars Pets
This pet portrait features a pair of pooches dressed as Ahsoka and Rex. You'll find a making-of GIF in the gallery above! It was hard to pick which costume to use for Ahsoka... I actually wound up pulling bits from a couple different versions.

Hairy, Angry Crab
Sometimes, you get a commission request that is extremely broad. For example, "Hairy, Angry Crab." Well, they asked! I like to think that I delivered.

Gert and Sam comic process
I thought I'd share the making-of process GIF for this recent Saucy Hippo comics page because A) it could be relatively PG with an extra shadow added and B) that making-of process was such a mess! The subject matter is a little steamy, but even if that isn't your thing, I think you might find the process behind the page interesting. This story has been a real challenge, artistically, with a lot of tricky posing and body language. So every page has taken a lot of rounds of sketches to get right!

You'll see just how many in the GIF in the gallery above. It was definitely a constantly evolving mess of both digital and on-paper sketching before I was happy enough with the base and ready to move on to inks.

Cheers, everyone! 'til next time.
