It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind the scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In  the gallery above, you'll find the final version of each piece, as well as some animated GIFs of how some of them came together!  And down here, I'll provide some info about each piece!

Ruby and Jess
My comic creation process is an increasingly bizarre hybrid of traditional and digital penciling and inking, and the making-of GIFs for this month's bonus comic really shows it.
In each GIF, the first frame shows the lineart I pencilled and inked on paper, while the second frame shows all the additions and edits I drew digitally using my tablet.

It is hard to explain exactly why I work like this! Sometimes, it's because of comfort -- there are some kinds of things I find easier to draw on paper and some I find easier to draw digitally. But honestly, sometimes it's just because of how I feel like working that day. In the recent stories that have run on my website, there are some pages that were pencilled/inked entirely on paper, some that were entirely digital, and some that were hybrids like this!

Nine Logos
For a recent comic, I got the chance to create nine logos for imaginary 90s children's tv shows. I had a ton of fun with this, but it was a lot of work... especially because I drew all the lettering by hand! (It just seemed easier than spending hours looking for the right kind of fonts!)

In the gallery above, I've included a making-of GIF that shows how some of the logos came together. (I could only show the "steps" for some of them, since I drew and colored some of them entirely on one layer like a crazy person.)

90 Years of Bitey the Shark
Speaking of imaginary cartoons, here's Bitey the shark! Bitey is kind of the S&F universe's answer to Mickey Mouse, but his history is more varied and dips into some eras and styles of cartoons that Mickey sat out.

The first three designs here are very referential to early Mickey history, and the last design is inspired by the modern Mickey shorts. But between those, we've also got a UPA-styled 50's Bitey, a Hanna Barbera-esque Bitey, a Muppet Babies Bitey, a Bitey in the style of edgy early 90s "creator driven" cartoons, a Space Jam-esque Bitey, and the original Sonic Adventure-esque Bitey that first appeared in S&F years ago.

The overall look of this graphic, with the different characters standing on a film strip, was inspired by a memory I have of a similar Mickey Mouse graphic from my childhood. I wasn't actually able to find it though -- I found lots of images of different Mickeys, but not one of them standing on a film strip. It's possible I am misremembering it!

In addition to a making-of GIF, I've also included a few rough sketches I drew before making the actual comic.

Blurgh
This panel was originally draw for a Saucy Hippo comic, but I later repurposed it for a jokey fill-in comic on my main site that I constructed entirely out of reused art.

I just really like this drawing! I think it has strong pandemic vibes, and I like the colors. So I included a making-of GIF in the gallery above to show how it all came together. This one was drawn entirely digitally.

Misson Impawsible
Another drawing for Bunsen the science dog! You'll find a making-of GIF in the gallery above.

This one is obviously a parody of Mission Impossible. It was a fun challenge to draw a recognizable version of that iconic scene. The room background is pretty unusual and it's also a slightly tricky pose for a dog, haha!

Cynthia
Closing things out with another sfw version of a recent pin-up I really liked! You can find a making-of GIF in the gallery above!

I keep joking about how Cynthia's hair just gets bigger and bigger every time I draw it. But that's not a super unusual thing to happen with a new character. You have to draw someone a few hundred times to really figure them out. lol!

Thanks, everyone!
