Hi, everyone. It's time for a fresh installment of S&F Extra! Here's a behind the scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In the gallery above, you'll find step-by-step animated GIFs chronicling the making of each piece, followed by PNGs of each individual step. And down here, I'll provide more info about each piece!

Fresh Loaf

Behold, my latest shirt design! This one came together rather easily... you'll notice there ultimately weren't any significant changes from the pencil sketch all the way to the final version. That rarely happens, so thank you, Fresh Loaf!

I did spend some time pondering the colouring scheme, though! I ultimately decided to go with the sapphire blue, but I was pretty fond of that purple, too. (The navy version wasn't bad, either!)

At the last minute, though, I did remember to make one last final tweak... changing Baker's nose from pink to black. (Or dark blue, anyway.) I'm not sure why my instinct is always to giver Baker a pink nose. My corgi has a black nose, and I'm not sure I've ever seen a pink-nosed corgi ever!

Nicole Poolside

This was actually a piece I drew recently for the Saucy Hippo tier! But I was especially happy with how the colouring turned out, and I had one version of it that was totally "PG", so I thought I'd share it here so people could get a look at that sweet, sweet colouring process GIF.

As you'll see in the GIF, I amped up my usual flat "cellshading" in this piece with some gradient shading, both on the colours and on the linework. It is really easy to overdo these kind of effects and lose the charm of cartoon cellshading, but I think it worked well here. (I was inspired a lot by the colouring work of some of my pals like Mike Luckas, M Lunsford, and Tyson Hesse.)

Platformers

I am having a lot of fun drawing this series of "platformer" video game characters! In addition to the "making-of" GIF above, I've also included the original black-and-white lineart for each piece. I drew each of these on paper and used a decent amount of black fills, similar to how I draw my "Inktober" pieces.

<3000

Here's another shirt design I came up with! This is not really my usual thing -- it's a reference to a line from Avengers: Endgame -- but the design idea just came to me, and I thought it would be a fun shirt to have at comic conventions.

I wanted to keep the design really simple and graphic, since the typography is kind of the whole point of it! But I played around with a few different possible colouring styles that I thought might help subliminally evoke the idea of Marvel or Iron Man. (You'll see them all in the GIF version.)

I ultimately went with the red verison because I just thought it would make for a nice shirt. (Plus it meant the heart was actually red!)

Tiki Crabsquid

I drew this Crabsquid (from Subnautica) for my friend Adam for his birthday. He is a big fan of both Subnautica and tiki bars, so it seemed appropriate. (I think.)

Thanks, y'all! 'til next time. :)
