It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I've been up to... as well as a bonus dip into the past!

Sam-style Sonics
You'll find a timelapse GIF of the making of this piece in the gallery above! You'll notice I threw in the background of my previous "S&F Critters as Sonic OCs" piece when I was penciling it... it was just there as a reference so that both pieces would have a similar layout and framing. I gotta say, I really love this piece! But I have a soft spot for the Sonic gang.

Noodle Rat
Who is noodle rat? Well, he's a rat that makes instant noodles. Some things just don't have a deep explanation!

From the Archives...
Since I was sick (as hell) last month and didn't get to draw as much as usual, I thought it might be fun to share some completely random things that I found while going through my files of physical art recently. Prepare for...

PRESIDENT (BULL)DOG
I had completely forgotten about this, but my earliest vision of President Dog actually had him as a bulldog! I think these are the only drawings of the bulldog prez... I realized almost immediately that I should just model him after my own Labrador Retriever, Mac.

BLUNTASAURUS KRUNK
Sometimes at conventions, my friends and I come up with deliberately terrible t-shirt ideas to try and crack each other up. I drew this one to get a laugh out of my friend Peter Chiykowski. We thought it would be funny for me to make a "weed shirt", since I have literally never smoked anything in my entire life. (I have asthma, lol.)

ALICIA DESIGN
Saucy Hippo subs saw these way back when, but for the rest of you... these are the first ever drawings of my character Alicia! She was not quite as short yet. (And neither was her hair.)

VAN CAT
Speaking of deliberately bad ideas, I drew this way back in 2013 as my "pitch" for a mascot for VanCAF, the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival. To be clear, Van Cat is not meant to be some kind of predator... he just has a van full of comic books and a tragically untrustworthy appearance.

MAMA ROBOTNIK
This was an attempt to draw the character Mama Robotnik (from the old Adventures of Sonic TV show) entirely from memory. I got pretty close! For comparison, I've included a photo here of an animation cell of her that I have hanging in my office. (She doesn't have a mustache in this cel, but she often did in the show.)

Jess and Trevor Comic
Here's a timelapse GIF of the making of a recent comic. Like many of my recent strips, this one experiments with having a "painted" style background. This time, you'll notice I actually drew the full backgrounds in their entirety before adding the characters on top. I thought I'd try doing this just in case I ever had occassion to resuse any of them, since this is a location the characters spend a lot of time in!

Aaaand here's the finished comic!

Star Wars Dogs

For our monthly sampling of pet portraits, here's a pair of pieces with a Star Wars theme. I think this is actually my first ever Ahsoka dog!

Bunsen Album

Last but not least, here's the finished version of my cover for Bunsen the science dog's new album. (I posted a sketch of it last month!) I've really enjoyed getting to do so much work for the Bunsen folks over the years. I'm actually working on a new book cover for them as we speak!

Thanks, everyone. Back soon with more fun stuff!
