On this week’s edition of Backstage Pass, I’ll be talking about…

Collaborating with a colorist! This isn’t an experience I have often, so it was fun figuring it out.

Folks who attend my livestreams may know that for OBT pages 24 through 32, I actually enlisted in the help of my beta reader and partner Pika to help lay down flat colors on the characters to help save time and work faster! To make sure this process went as smoothly as possible, I would send over a PSD file of the current page once I completed lineart, with characters filled in with a base white and transparency locked so the colorist could get straight to work. I also sent over a sort of character color-picking sheet, which looked something like this:

It helped give a general idea of marking placements, with additional open mouth palettes and locations listed for all colors that show up on the gang. I also sent over these less organized screenshots for color picking on Azurill and Drowzee:

I was fortunate to have a very attentive colorist who was able to pick out where colors are supposed to lay in visual noise, and I only had to make minimal edits to coloring after the fact!
