Dave on Dave is an ongoing series in which David Cho and David Chen gather together to discuss life and work. Also, usually David Cho has some harsh words to say about David Chen's stuff!

In this episode, the Daves reflect on the nature of weddings. Then, David Chen reports on some successes and some setbacks in recent days (and why David Cho is somehow responsible for it all). Finally, starting at 47:35, we talk a little about The Flash with SPOILERS.

Obviously we all love you here but just wanted to say that A Cast of Kings is what got me into podcasts, and it's still one of my all time favorites. I guess you can't please everyone. I remember trying out at least 8 different GoT podcasts and I felt you made things very friendly for a new listener. Others would not bother to explain segments, inside jokes, callbacks, etc and it takes much longer to get to feel like you're part of the in group that way. Along those lines I like the short recaps of the shows you are covering. I just think it brings everyone up to speed. I often listen to coverage of shows I haven't watched yet or won't watch and it's just easier to follow with the recap. You can't expect new listeners to enjoy "the hang" in and of itself when they may not be familiar with you yet. I am also a huge bald move fan but I don't think they do as good of a job bringing new listeners "into the fold" so I would be way more likely to recommend your content to a friend.

100% agreed with this. "The hang" is very important to me but the structure of the podcast is what enables the hang to eventually occur, imho.

After listening to this I tracked down the Reddit thread you referred to and honestly I think most of what that person was saying showed someone who simply didn't understand the point of that GoT podcast. You were vigorously trying to protect listeners from having things spoiled from them, because that was the whole point of that show, to offer a kind of spoiler free safe space for people who were watching the show who hadn't read the books and just wanted to watch the show without it being spoiled. I have ALWAYS liked and respected that about you, Dave, how you are always so conscious of spoilers and not wanting to ruin things for people who are looking to stay spoiler free, because a lot of content creators either don't care about that, or are very lax about it and occasionally let stuff slip. I've offered up what I hoped were constructive criticisms in the past, and that's usually gone poorly for me, but I 100% agree with David Cho about your moral and ethical core being, well, pure (for lack of a better word). You're an extremely honest person, and absolutely have a code that you are committed to, and that really comes across to people who listen to you. Those people who were criticizing you either don't get your sense of humor or are just bitter, jealous people. There's a pretty obvious reason that you have the success you do as a podcaster, and it's because you're so damned good and professional at it. I wish other content creators had even a fraction of the work ethic and respect for the audience that you have. Keep your chin up and don't change a thing.
