Greetings DChen Patrons,

As you may have heard, I got invited to give a talk at the Hawai'i International Film Festival at their "Online Creatives and Critics Immersive Program." It was such a pleasure to speak with some young creative folks and give them some advice about the things I've learned over the course of the decade. I was grateful to be invited and hope to one day return.

I was able to film myself giving the talk and the above is a heavily edited version of the conversation we had last week (i've removed some portions of the Q&A for audio/pacing reasons, plus a more personal section that has some business details). I'm sharing it for Patrons-only right now and I hope that it gives you some insight into how and why I do what I do.

As usual, thanks for being a Patron and supporting my work online! It really means a lot.

Personal anecdote re: parasocial ice cream picture – no shame in saying, when driving I'll super often pause podcasts when one of the hosts is asked a question (e.g. one of you is about to give your impressions of a movie on the Filmcast) – and talk out loud as if I'm part of the convo, giving my own impressions. Sharing not because I think I'm good at articulating myself – but rather, it's just a fun & engaging to listen along as if it was a real convo.
