Thanks Dave. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills seeing people online gushing about this show. In particular seeing the working class whiteness and seeing the dysfunction on-screen really bring it down for me. A lot of it boils down to how unbelieveably unlikeable the rest of the town is. The first episode left a really bad taste in my mouth, with how aggressively mean they are to Mare. And the rest of the town never fully redeemed themselves, and made them fully relatable. I remember trying to interrogate this. Like why is everyone in this town an asshole? Is it the poverty? No, everyone's house seems kinda nice. They're not rich, but they living comfortably. Job prospects? I dunno. Not fully explored. It seemed to overtake my thoughts on the show, and I honestly didn't care at all about the mystery, and I was just enjoying exploring these characters and trying to understand the dysfunction. But a masterpiece it most certainly is not. The dysfunction is layered on too thick and without enough nuance for me to have loved it
