Thank you for the great conversation Dave and Joanna Robinson. The Steven Yeon profile really resonated with me as well. It was interesting to think, Dave, you and I are in similar age, but I'm more like your dad, in terms of sensitivity to microaggression, because I lived in South Korea until I turn 31 and then moved here. In my personal experience though, it's not that I don't catch the microagressions from white people to us, but more like I can ignore them, because I grew in Korea for my whole life as a majority. You know what I mean? In Korea, white people are minority and we Koreans have microagressions to them(unconsciously in most cases). So when I felt the microaggression, or even unconscious racism, I can just consider them as kindness. This conversation between Sandra Oh and Sharon Choi catches it very well I think. Loved this discussion. Thanks for sharing! I’m Mexican American and I felt the emotional impact of that Steven Yuen quote, too. The immigrant struggle is a shared one and his words will stick with me. For anyone unaware of the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in the US, please read up on it as the mainstream media is not covering it to the degree that it should. https://www.thecut.com/2021/02/the-us-is-seeing-a-massive-spike-in-anti-asian-hate-crimes.html Check in on your Asian friends/fam, and consider offering to escort them on a walk or a grocery run. People are scared.
