NOTE: This chapter...gets a little crazy.

I tried to make this good and intense, and I hope it turned out well.

Oh, and this chapter sort of has theme music, which may feel like it doesn't fit the beginning of the chapter, but definitely fits the end of it:

FEEDBACK: Thoughts?

I try to write in such a way that you will feel something. Whether that be trill, excitement, sorrow, and/or compassion (for the characters and/or their situation). My hope is that you did feel something in this chapter, but it's difficult to accomplish, and can be 'hit or miss' no matter how much practice I have.

Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know!

I really like Kaizer’s stories and appreciate that he regularly delivers an interesting chapter every week. My personal favorite is the combat healer, but Kai’s story is also interesting. I’m left with a lot of questions after this chapter. I guess I share some of the same concerns as other commenters. This is the first time that I have seen Kai become the Hulk – unreasoning, uncontrollable rage beyond a brief responsive episode. Is he losing his mind? Interestingly, his harem seems to have some control over him, damping his murderous instinct… At least if I am reading it right, he had full intention of killing the man but was held back. Kai didn’t seem to be thrilled with establishing a meaningful relationship with the precog, but he seemed to lose it when she died. As far as I remember, he didn’t have any absolute proof that Trey’s father attempted to kill Claire or the guy's rationale for doing so. How could the ancient Kai be involved with this man – is he evil or not? Kai finally has a link to Eve… Will Kai’s blood be adequate to remove the curse that he himself placed on Claire? It seems like almost every chapter is a cliffhanger. Personally, I don’t like that. It is like the soap operas my mother watched that I despised. Don’t worry Kaizer – I’ll keep reading. You don’t need cliffhangers to maintain my interest. Your good story is enough for that!

The whole medic/assassins on standby does not seem realistic to me. 911 seemed to have been activated almost immediately, I don't see how there would have been time to coordinate something like that. Trey wouldn't have the time or privacy, unless he is telepathic? Being proactive is one thing, but murdering 2 photogenic teenage girls (that they were on camera picking up) in an ambulance without someone telling them to, is something else.

So...this kind of thing happens in real life. And not just in random third world countries where the mafia rules, but in highly developed countries too. Is it rare? Maybe? Hopefully? But either way, it does happen. This specific 'ambulance assassination' might not have been the wisest, but I'll point out in a second why it is still possible that it might happen. In a major city, 911 will usually be there within 5 minutes. Depending on where everything is located, the fire department might show up first, but usually an ambulance is close behind. And part of the reason why is because there are a lot of private 'for profit' Ambulance companies that just drive around, waiting for 911 calls to come through. It's like a medical taxi service (might vary depending on country, but this story is based in the US). Furthermore, photogenic or not, it would be crazy easy to make these two disappear, to falsify how they died, to suppress any reporting on it, and to ultimately come up with a 'different' story for everything that happened. Possibly even claim that Claire made the whole attack up for attention (had the whole thing planned out, including fake blood). It's not that Trey called these people up, but instead that they are proactively protecting the 'boss's kid' knowing there might be consequences if they didn't do anything, likely fearing for their own lives and the lives of those they love. That's a powerful motivator. No one has to give an order to make this kind of thing happen. And while it might not have been the smartest move, it is still potentially something that 'someone afraid' might do to ensure they cover up 'this mess' they stumbled upon. At the end of the day, if all the witnesses are gone, then those 'living' get to tell whatever story they want, and unfortunately this does happen in real life all the time (likely more frequent that you're even imagining - take the 'Boeing Airlines witness deaths' as a recent example that's gotten a lot of publicity). And most cases like this don't get any kind of publicity. People disappear all the time, every day, and it gets almost no attention. I just looked it up, and a little over 2000 people go missing DAILY (and that's just in the US). Of those who go missing, roughly 15% to 20% are never found (almost 1 out of 5 people who go missing are never found). Daily, that's maybe 300 people who go missing who are never found (ever). Every day. Roughly 90,000 people per year are permanently lost after going missing. As a theoretical example of how this might have played out, these two girls disappear and the official story goes: Claire lied. Trey wasn't even there (and of course, no one who saw him is alive to contradict). Or maybe he was there, but the couch was the assailant, or even that Claire and Avery got in a fight over who was going to prom with Trey and Claire broke her nose. Could be a million different variations. They got picked up by an ambulance, dropped off at a hospital, and then both left of their own freewill. The 'hospital' confirms this. But then the girls disappear. The news spins a story about how they were so embarrassed that they ran away from home. Who is to say anything different is true? People tend to believe what they are told without question (and that's a big point). If a single corrupt hospital admin tells the cops that it is true, then they will believe it. If a single corrupt 'Chief of police' says it, then the news will believe it. If the Executive Editor-in-Chief of a news outlet says it, then the populace will believe it, often without question. Even if the news story is later updated when no one cares. All it takes if for one corrupt individual. Hospital admin says the girls never showed up, but the corrupt 'Chief of Police' writes a report that they did and will not investigate the story further. If he stops the investigation, then it stops. The hospital admin isn't going to investigate, etc. And then, you have the end result. The girls become the perpetrators, and Trey is the victim (he would easily play it off as a victim). Kids at school: "Man Trey, I'm so sorry they played you like that." and "Oh, poor Trey. He was the victim here." (and on and on). Even if there are those who don't believe it ("But Avery would never do something like that!") there's nothing they can really do about it. Not when the police won't pursue it. Or maybe they are pursuing it, but there's just no evidence to be found (because hospital admin is the one corrupt, etc). No 'body' means no case in many situations. When 'those in power' are even moderately corrupt, this is easy to do and it absolutely happens even in today's world. And even when there is no rampant corruption, it can still be pulled off by mafia-type groups just by hiding evidence.
