I work at belle home Kenwood house the inside in the film is not the house we are a free to enter and have a world class art collection if in London do visit us https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/kenwood/ plus that painting we have a copy at the house and the original painting I still with the family at the ancestral home in Scone ascotland and in pride of place for all too see

Loved rewatching this one. I can’t imagine being alive in those times, but this was a beautiful story, embellished but Belle was a real person, and Lord Mansfield’s verdict on the Zong ship insurance case was real too, and it did help England towards eventually abolishing slavery. ☺️✊🏾 Plus the director Amma Asante is English born woman of Ghanaian decent. Fun Fact: I read somewhere that Jane Austen’s “Mansfield Park” novel was influenced by Lord Mansfield and Belle. No spoilers but that novel is about a young girl sent to live with affluent family who’s social standing within the family was always viewed as less than. Not the same story at all, but the parallels are definitely there. Hope you continue your period piece journey. ☺️
