October Sky is a 1999 American biographical drama film directed by Joe Johnston and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper, Chris Owen, and Laura Dern. The screenplay by Lewis Colick, based on the memoir of the same name, tells the true story of Homer H.

Hi again, KSO! I just finished watching "October Sky" along with you, and I am so happy that you enjoyed the movie. Don't feel bad that you are a "tearful mess"; I cannot get through this movie without crying myself! LOL However, it's not because the movie is sad. This movie is so heartwarming and inspirational to me. I'm so glad to be able to share it with you. Your reaction was beautiful. I loved how you understood the relationship between father and son. Homer's dilemma (between being true to himself and pleasing his father) hit me hard. It is not the same thing, but I went through a long part of my life trying to please my mother and suppress my sexuality. I wish my mother would one day come around and see myself for who I truly am.
