MICHAEL JACKSON - LITTLE SUSIE

Wow Ive never heard of this one before either. This has got to be the weirdest tune from Michael. Somehow I knew from the start that this was going to be a sad song. Usually when I hear a choir of kids harmonizing as such it reminds me of a horror film. This to me sounds like a cross between "The Exorcist" and "Thriller" (HOW APPROPRIATE HUH?) You just know someone's going to get murdered just by how it all sounds. It's just sad that it's a little girl who got severely neglected and was left to fend for her own before the eventual death. This one's so eerie it gives me goosebumps

This song is new to me, too. It feels creepy and incomplete, but maybe that was what Michael wanted us to feel. At first I thought it might be careless or even inept songwriting, but that's hard to believe from Michael Jackson. Then I thought of how so many old and traditional folk songs, many of them about terrible events or crimes ('murder ballads' they're sometimes called) often are incomplete in the same way, leaving out the "why" or "how" or even the "who," All that's left is the crime itself, and the horror or pathos it inspires. We fill in the details ourselves (many folk songs were written that way, handed down over the generations with new details added by new singers, the result being songs that feel even more mysterious and obscure), or do without them
