Wow Ive heard this song a gazillion times and never new it was about taking pictures with a Kodak. Now looking at the cameras in the video I have to laugh because the technology back then was kind of clumsy looking I'll admit andcyes I remember it

That muted drumming sound is probably brushes being played on a muted drum. I used to throw a little fabric square (16x16) on my snare (with the snares turned off) to create that kind of subdued "pitter-patter" sound. Paul's rhythmic approaches to songs were almost ALWAYS on point.
