I wouldn't call Sybil the winner in this film in a couple of months when Cathy has to let her go because she can't afford a housekeeper anymore. Hahaha

As always, thank you, my darling Kemi, for an excellent, passionate reaction! I remember seeing this movie in 2002 in theaters, and I enjoyed it enough to add the DVD to my collection; however, it has probably been 20 years since I've revisited the film. I put "Far From Heaven" on my list of movies for you after seeing your reaction to "Imitation of Life" (1959). "Far From Heaven" was nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Actress (Julianne Moore), Best Original Screenplay (director Todd Haynes), Best Original Score (Elmer Bernstein) and Best Cinematography (Edward Lachman). Haynes tried to give the film the look and feel similar to that of Douglas Sirk's movies in the 1950s. (Douglas Sirk directed "Imitation of Life"), and Haynes was widely praised at the time for capturing the "soap opera" style of Sirk's films. Ultimately, you did say you liked the film, but it was not my intention to get your blood pressure up so high! LOL You truly had a lot to say, and that's why you are still my #1 favorite reactor and why I have been with you all these years! While society has improved exponentially since 1957, of course, we still have to deal with homophobia and racism in 2024. Queer youth are still committing suicide, and you yourself have told a story where you experienced racism at an airport a few years ago. While Frank was an unlikeable character in your eyes, I think the director tried to give an honest portrayal of the self-torment he must have felt and yes, his internal anger and self-hatred is probably why he was so cruel. I love that you enjoyed Dennis Haysbert as Raymond. I like to think that he and Cathy met up in the future at some point when times were different and then had a proper romance! I appreciate your passion, Kemi! Thank you for an excellent and thought-provoking discussion!
