Gorgon bust (Patreon)

The Hall of Statues prize attraction was the petrified bust of one of the Gorgon sisters. Proudly on display in a special wing with some of her victims she was only open to viewing via camera, the camera’s positioned to prevent viewers making eye contact with her, or through specially arranged sessions.

These special sessions were limited in number, each guest being provided with a special pair of glasses that prevented the permanent petrification of the wearer upon making eye contact, instead causing them to freeze up until the contact was broken.

However once every few weeks there was always a tourist who thought it was a fake. Who’d proudly pull off their glasses to expose the whole thing, before the cold of granite quickly took their form.

These new statues would henceforth be property of the museum, displayed in the same room as the Gorgon’s Bust until enough others had dared the Gorgon’s gaze and they would be sold off to make room.

The luckiest would find themselves in private collections, those less so decorating public parks or fountains. Those who haven’t sold might find themselves donated to art schools as raw material.

And the unluckiest, those who had crossed both the Gorgon’s Gaze and those of the living who might want revenge, well there’s always a market for more gravel...
