OK. So I bought a tool that is supposed to convert old V4 morphs to G3. If you look way, way back then you can see those experiments too.

It is what I used for Josephine and Robyn in Chapter 40 of Bim U.

That tool that I bought works reasonably well, but it's not perfect. The V4 morphs look better if you dial in the V4 Clone from Hidden Morphs. However, the clone messes up the hands, fingers, and their rigging when you use the V4 Clone on G3. You can see what I mean in images 5 and 6 of this set.

Then, of course, I tried a "Fit Clone" method of doing the same conversion manually, and that did not work well at all for several reasons that are a little too difficult to explain.

However, I was not defeated. I continued to think about it and wondered what would happen if I tried both methods together?

So I loaded a base V4 and added just Brynne's head morph - not her body, just her head. I then converted that using the tool that I have to G3. I loaded G3 and imported Brynne's head. Then I tried the "Fit Clone" method to mold G3 to G8.

Basically what you do is load G8, dial in G8's clone of G3's shape, and export her shape as a basic OBJ instead of a fully rigged model. Then you import this base shape of G8 into Daz and you call it a "Fit Clone". It's just a term you use, because you are going to use this OBJ of G8 to "fit" G3 to it and then "clone" G3's morphs onto G8.

Have I melted your brain yet? :P

I might need to actually do a video of this...

Anyway, you import a G8 OBJ and match G3's base T-Pose to G8's A-Pose so that the two models are in exactly the same pose. Then you use the "Transfer Utility" that is included in Daz Studio to sort of merge the two models. What you actually do is transfer G3's morphs to G8 and then make G8 exactly follow G3.

This let's you hide G3 in the scene, but when you dial in a morph on G3 it also affects the G8 OBJ that you have in the scene. So you dial in whatever morphs you want on G3, but export the altered form of G8!  O_O

And ta-da! You have your G3 morphs now in a version that can be used on G8 (once you export your morphed G8 OBJ that is). :P

So I tried three things: just Brynne's head, just V4's base shape, and both together. It looks like it mostly worked, but I haven't tried posing to see if it messes up the rigging around the hands like it did for G3. I am also wondering if I can do just Brynne's head. I don't really need to export her body, as I would actually prefer to use G8's body and just dial in morphs to make it closer to Brynne's figure.

Anyway, more testing is needed! :)
