I might as well let you all know that I think my Power Supply is dying. I periodically hear a loud "Clicking" sound that is getting worse by the day, like a baseball card in a bike tire. I have checked all of my case fans, as one of them was doing this a while back, and it's not any of them. It's also not my CPU fan, and it doesn't seem to be my GPU fan as far as I can tell. There is no easy way to test this, so I have determined it's the Power Supply Fan by the process of elimination and a inaccurate measurement of listening to my machine.

My system restarted once today, so I really have no clue what is going to happen. It could die at any moment, or be fine for weeks. There is no convenient Computer Repair shop near where I live now, at least not within walking distance. I am doing what I can to resolve the issue, but you will know if it dies because I will suddenly just vanish with no content. :/

Let us all pray for my PSU! :P

It's not hard to replace it yourself, it's just a hassle to reconnect all the cables, unless you've got a modular PSU and you can buy the exact brand and model number. But I would first check if nothing got stuck in the old PSU fan, like a zipty or cable or something.

Oh nooo!!! If it’s definitely the power supply then it’s a super easy fix, but fingers crossed ;)

I'll keep my fingers crossed, Phoney

Normally, yes. Here, there could be complications just in getting the parts. There might not, though. We'll just have to see.

Cleaned it and all of the filters today. Nothing external was the cause, and I have no way to open the PSU itself.

Don't you have can-opener😜? Just kidding. There is no need to open it. I've got an electronics degree and even I don't fix a PSU's, I just buy a new one, since you can always use a good PSU in a new build. To be honest I can't remember the last time I had to replace one (about 20 years ago I guess).

Dam, not one day of rest. 🤞🏻

mrphoenyxx

Or too much rest, depending on how you look at it. Lol! Thank you for the crossed fingers. :)

In all my years of IT, I have never opened a PSU. But I know a bit of your background and wasn't sure what you would think of that. Lol! :)

Oh no! I hope it's nothing serious :O

It is an it's not. I mean you can't do anything without a power supply, but they do die or break just like any other component. :)
