Driving with Family (Patreon)
Content
Terrible post title. I was trying to think of a twist on, "Driving Miss Daisy", but nothing really worked with going for a drive with my Mother and Father. Lol!
Anyway, my parents and I drove down to Dipper Harbor yesterday. I think I have mentioned this before. Branches of my family come from there. Feel free to google it if you are curious:
Dipper Harbor, New Brunswick, Canada.
My parents do this drive a couple of times each year in summer. They go to visit the gravestones, and to just see the scenery which is beautiful. We did this drive a couple of months ago, shortly after I moved back home. And when we visited the gravestones, they had collected dirt and some kind of growth. This is normal and comes from the graveyard being located near the bay. Well, it's actually miles from the bay, but the general air in the region is sort of salty and wet from being near the ocean.
My mother commented that they needed to be cleaned. So that is what we did yesterday. We drove down with water, dish soap (yes, dish soap), and scrub brushes. Then we scrubbed the gravestones down and rinsed them off. They look much better now.
This is something that my mother has been doing for years, and nobody else in the family makes the time to do so. I may take up this mantle of responsibility after they are gone.
