At around 11:30 hours local time, a vehicle approached the Rainbow Bridge border crossing between the United States and Canada at Niagara Falls at a high rate of speed and exploded, just short of the U.S. side border checkpoint.
Four Western New York border crossings are closed in both directions, while all other U.S. border crossings remain open. The FBI has stated that a "vehicle explosion" occurred at the checkpoint and that the situation is "fluid."
There is no information on causalities from Canadian, United States, or New York officials. The incident has not been labeled a terrorist attack at the time of the flash update. The explosion did happen just hours after the Department of Homeland Security warned of potential terrorist activity in New York.
If your travel plans for the United States Thanksgiving holiday including crossing the U.S.-Canada border by car, expect heightened security and increased delays in the short term.
