The United States House voted 336-95 to approve a stop-gap "clean" spending bill that will avert the shutdown of the U.S. government on Saturday. The measure, which has no poison pill provisions or calls for spending increases or cuts, will almost certainly sail through the Senate and then to President Joe Biden for approval.

The bill received the support of 209 Democrats and 97 Republicans, with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) forced to cross the aisle to get the required votes needed to move a spending bill forward.

None of the eight members of Congress who worked to have former speaker McCarthy vacated have indicated they will take action against Johnson for aligning with Democrats to prevent a shutdown. Funding for the Departments of Agriculture, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Veterans Affairs expires on January 19, while funding for all other departments, including Defense, ends on February 2.

The "clean" bill provides no additional funds for the Gaza Strip, Palestinians, Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, or the southern U.S. border.
