PMC Wagner channels are confirming that Yevgeny Prigozhin was assassinated by the Russian government after the airplane he was on was shot down over Tver.

Clearly a message. Russian assassinations at least attempt to be subtle. This was bold and flashy and sign to everyone what happens to those who threaten Putin’s regime. Benefit is the world has one less monster and Putin has one less attack dog.

Another benefit is confirming for the umpteenth time that you cannot count on Putin to keep his side of a deal. I have no idea whether Prigozhin, Lukashenko et al ever believed in ‘the deal’, but if there was ever any doubt that Russia is run like a mafia state, well, they are now dispelled, right? Talk about a night of long knives….
