This is Report 404, which is 60 pages, a bullet report with a special report section, combat only.

Editor's Note: Thank you for a major milestone. In the podcast world, 20,000 downloads in a day is a magic number. That's the bottom of the A list; you've arrived. On June 5, 2023, we broke 20,000 for the first time. Actually, we smashed it. 22,497 downloads. Thank you for your faith!

What's the big story? The fallout from the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam and we provide a deep dive into the background and eight possible theories on what caused the failure.

What's the second story? It's a toss-up between things quieting down in Belgorod, Ukraine gains in the Bakhmut Operational Area, and how much fog of war there is right now.

Congratulations on the downloads. Help me understand something please. Daily Assessments #3: Gauleiters - is this a reference to status in the Russian political hierarchy? Are you equating Putin’s regime with Nazi’s (in which I would be in agreement)? Just wanted to be sure I’m fully understanding the reference. Thanks!

Our community went through two “500 year floods” in about 10 years. They are devastating. I cannot imagine going through them and being in the war zone at the same time. My heart bleeds.

I am not from the team, but the implications is that they are illegitimate administrative heads that are imposed on the local population in an occupied area by the far away oppressive regime. The Nazi did this, but I think the malcontents are not directly comparing everything the Russians are doing with everything the Nazis did, but certainly this administrative detail.

Hmmn...I see on the map you have the area around Urazovo delineated as an incursion; also, this sitrep reports HIMARS strikes in Troitske/Lantrivka on the rail system...can you add any clarification?

TheMalcontent

There was an incursion there within the last 30 days hence the way it is mapped (multiple Russian sources but given this is Russian v Russian most claims are from Russian sources) As for the Troitske HIMARS strike at Lantrivka Station, there isn't much to add. The LNR JCCC no longer reports on these situations in detail. You can click through on the footnote but you won't find much more

Tiryn is correct. We use gauleiter for an occupation official from Russia, appointed by Russia. It is a style/editorial decision because of the historical role of a gauleiter and not a statement that they adhere to Nazi ideology (although the style of leadership resembles it)

I've been there too, though not from a dam breach. It washes away everything, including valuable topsoil that farmers have been improving for decades. But to get to the scale of this one you have to think back to WW2. A terrible picture seems to be emerging of rescue operations, or lack thereof, in the left bank. I cannot even imagine what the losses will come up to, in lives and in property.

Do you have any sense of why the Red Cross and UN are not providing humanitarian assistance to evacuate people? Is there a legitimate donation site?
