Before dawn over Belgorod, Russia, two Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopters, flying at treetop level to avoid radar, struck the fuel depot in an industrial area, located just across the Ukrainian border. The attack has been confirmed by the regional government and western media. There are multiple videos and pictures of the attack.

Eight of 16 storage tanks were destroyed with the fire still burning in the morning. Residents of Belgorod choked gas stations with massive lines, as residents panic-bought fuel, worried about additional attacks.

The tank farm is located on the eastern edge of the city in an industrial area, away from any civilian housing or commerce areas.

Yesterday, Ukraine fired a single artillery shell or rocket into a forward operating base located about 12 kilometers across the Russian border, wounding four. Later the same day, a large ammunition depot on the outskirts of Belgorod exploded, with Russian authorities claiming it was an accident.

OPINION: Psychologically, this is the Ukrainian equivalent of the 1942 Doolittle Raid on Tokyo.

Of course. As did Japan in the Doolittle raid. But just like the Doolittle raid this will bolster morale for Ukrainians (fighters and civilians alike) which is badly needed right now.

Hopefully some Russians will think "Hmm. This is getting serious. Maybe I should check another news source like BBC or Al Jazeera.
