This one got away from me a bit I think. Wouldn't have thought such a loyal adaptation could result in a 37 minute video.

Well, that was a lot of red bull....

Wincent, The Hollow Knight

I remember seeing this movie (the Swedish translated version) when I was like... 4-5. Love it.

I grew up with this movie so I’m really thrilled you cover it. Good work on it too! It really is a stunningly beautiful... and blue film.

Wow that is alot of Redbull, that's like od on caffene levels.

When you drink 13 Red Bulls and still manage to not have the heart attack until you finish the video is an amazing feat. Well done!

Would love to see The Dom tackle The Flight of Dragons. Loosely based off of two practically unrelated books, and with one of the most beautiful opening songs I've ever ever heard.

Thank you so much for this! I have seen the German translation of this Movie as a child and later as an english speaking adult, watched it again in the original and I always found it beautiful. Also, I loved so hard when ou used "Yona of the Dawn" - Clips! i litterally started that series yesterday, and today I am watching your review using it! I love coincidences like this BTW I pray for you, If you actually drank all those red bulls cmpletly... No sleep for the next two days, I guess

Very nicely done LIA, and one I was looking forward to. I thought the tree did have boobs in the book, but I saw the movie first, so maybe I only imagined the scene from the movie while reading. My only little niggle is I wish The Dom had pointed out the significance of Schmendrick's name, since it is an old Yiddish word meaning fool or highly incompetent person, and the Schmendrick of the novel/film does take on some of the qualities of the typical Jewish fool from Yiddish folklore. It is a bit obscure, though, so I get why it flew under his radar.

I don't know why, but to me the butterfly looks a little like G. R. R. Martin to begin with

Dear God, man, lay off the Red Bull for your own health! It's not worth it! Though, to be honest, if you hadn't made a single RB joke, I'm sure people would have called you on it so good on yer! :D I have been highly anticipating this review since it was announced. Anyone who expected cute prancing unicorns dancing on Rainbows is in for almost as much of a shock as anyone who went into the Fantastic Adventures of Unico with the same thought. (Good news Dom, that is manga and probably outside your domain). The Taco and the Butterfly are hands down the most out of place thing ever. To be honest, your review largely mirrors my own sentiments on the movie and book, and I grew up loving the hell out of the movie. And I had no idea why. The young me would have said "UNICORN PRETTY!" but the older me would say "That is so very NOT DIsney." and the art style so unique, and the language... Molly, quit cursing out the unicorn. It's a curious piece and the book certainly shed some light on what a strange and interesting thing it really is. Thank you for what I consider a quite wonderful review. You pretty much addressed everything I could have thought of - good, bad and ugly and then some.

Skemono

I actually wanted to request Unico, if only to see The Dom's reaction to when that movie goes completely off-script... but yeah, he's said he can't do Japanese adaptations.

I've been looking forward to this review for a long time, and you didn't disappoint! I'll admit some of your recent reviews have been a bit lacklustre for me, but this one brought the old charm back full force; equal parts informative, funny, and insightful. I'm glad the book and film both left an impact for you, even if they're not fully your cup of tea. My mom used to read me the book as a kid and I watched the film soon after, so I've got to admit the story is so ingrained in me I can't fathom approaching the story for the first time as an adult, or seeing it as "rambling." (To me, the story is just perfect for what it is--though that's probably because I'm desperately in love with the fantasy and fairy tale genre, rather than sci fi like yourself.) This has been a great review to a book and movie I really love. (LOVE the Red Bull running gag. xD) Thank you so much for a great review, The Dom.

Unicorn Vs. Cthulhu—I want it to happen now!

Beagle did write a sequel short story called "Two Hearts" and it is very bittersweet. I think he's planning a sequel book.

This has been my favourite film since I was tiny (although “the boob tree” still has me traumatised) and i love the book too- i find the way its written so lyrical and poetic, im so happy you reviewed this!!
