Nice. I understand your dislike of the movie. the Last Airbender does the same thing to me. That said it took a while for me to understand the type of humor (being an American not quite used to dry British wit at the time) in the book but once I got it I loved it. Nice review and I hope to see part 2 when you can put it up.

Did you yell "Belgium!" before jumping out of the screen? O.o

Skemono

Probably, as a reference to the series. In "Life, the Universe, and Everything", end of chapter 21, it's revealed that "Belgium" is the "one word that is still beyond the pale. The concept it embodies is so revolting that the publication or broadcast of the word is utterly forbidden in all parts of the Galaxy except for use in Serious Screenplays."

oh boy. I...send comfy towels and hope you see something so surprising, so weird, so out-of-place and sudden, that you forget that you were falling or...um...yelling such a horrible word. BAD DOM!

Lovely video as always The Dom, you hoopy frood you. Though I feel compelled to say, your complaints about the movie's portrayal of Arthur are pretty much how I remember him from the books (though it has admittedly been years since I read them).

Either Reginald's on break or the Serious Screenplays Only Word is too profane to be contained by the Calm Intellectual Filter.

Hello, our beautiful The Dom, keep a stiff. british, upper lip and Don't Panic. Just one more part left. You can make it through this. And if you can't : <a href="http://allrecipes.com.au/recipe/5041/pan-galactic-gargle-blaster.aspx" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://allrecipes.com.au/recipe/5041/pan-galactic-gargle-blaster.aspx</a> <a href="https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bartending/Cocktails/Pan_Galactic_Gargle_Blaster" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bartending/Cocktails/Pan_Galactic_Gargle_Blaster</a> Good luck.

So there are video games as well? Where do those fit on the adaptation tree?

The robe was a nice touch. I can't wait for part 2!!

Dear The Dom A quick question, what is it with you British people and your obsession about Belgium? From a Dane.

Anonymous

This was damn good. One nitpick, you said Lou-iss Armstrong instead of Lou-ee Armstrong. Might want to annotate that before social media gives you shit for it.

Oh, also, you say the bathrobe thing begins in the tv show, but I swear that comes from a writing error where Arthur Dent is never described as changing out of that getup in the book. Was a confusing detail for me as a kid. Because if he's in a dressing gown the whole time the discomforts of such impractical wear would be worth mentioning. But if he's not, what kind of clothes he might get in space would be important world building. And whether he got to wash it at any point would similarly be a big deal. Anyway, I hope I'm remembering that right.

....did he just run into the green screen

Jo and Gareth

My understanding is that the question of what he was wearing simply never came up and wasn't deemed important. When it came to the TV show they were confronted with the fact that Arthur is described as wearing his gown while laying in front of the bulldozer but there's never a mention of his changing. They wrote in a scene at the end of the first episode wear the Heart of Gold materialises a space outfit for him. Then they thought it would be funny to cut the scene and keep him in the gown.

Oh no, you forgot your towel! Quick question, is it cool if I edit this to bleep out the swears? I'd like to watch it with my class.
