Since my 'patron only WIPs' content is being stolen and hosted for free on a website publicly, I've been looking around for a temporary but hopefully long term solution.

So I am curious, what do you guys think about Primeleap?

Primeleap is supposed to help protect most of patron content from this illegal website.

So I wanted your input before I decide to add this.

Does this affect people's ability to save the works posted for personal use?

letodoesart

I have yet to look into this further. I think this question can be answered in the Primeleap website, if I'm not wrong.

It depends on how hard it is to navigate and use I suppose, I don't know a ton about it. from what I can tell you're unable to download stuff posted on there (which makes sense), I never download WIPs so that doesn't affect me personally. As long as it's still easy for me to see the images without much hassle then I don't really care either way. If I have to make separate accounts or something that I need to log into and remember that might be kind of annoying though. But if WIPs are a big part of your business model and these illegal sites are disrupting that then I say go for it, I'd rather you make a living off your work than anything else.

It adds watermarks to the artwork in random areas and a better solution in my opinion is just post the wips in low res on fa at the same time as the full res here. Theres already software that works around primeleap anyway. People did it with blitzdrachins work.

Primeleap is an awful pain to use and doesn’t succeed in protecting anything.

You have to consider, what will you even get from this? All out preventing this sort of 'piracy' is almost impossible, and there are few if any people who would support you just to get the WIPs anyway.

I would protect the original, finished work, instead. All pirated WIPs actually work as unpaid advertisements. Sounds weird - but this is my opinion.

I use primeleap for 2 other Patreons it’s alright, but if it works I’m cool with ut

Do what you have to in order to protect your art. I’m sure all of us who aren’t thieves don’t mind just one more step before we can see your art

Cygnus

The site doesn't really explain how it works as far as I can see? ^?^ It's for watermarking?

letodoesart

I think so. I've heard big artists uses it and it has helped, hence I am looking into it myself.

letodoesart

I don't mind finished content leaked tbh, but when WIPs is leaked publicly, I sort of lose motivation to finish it, because I look at it as a surprise gift for non patrons. But if they can just go to this illegal website to find it being stolen off of Patreon, then what's the point of me to post WIPs on here? Hence I am looking into Primeleap. I probably would just use Primeleap for WIPs and behind the scenes, the rest I don't care about getting leaked because that is already being posted publicly by me.

letodoesart

I mean finished art I don't care about being leaked, because it's a finished project. But if my WIPs are leaked, I sort of lose motivation to finish it, WIPs to me feels like a very early surprise specially made for my Patrons, not for public. So if people can just go to that illegal website to look at it for free, then what's the point for me to even post a WIP on here? I might as well just post it on furaffinity for all to see. I just wish temporarily private meant temporarily private. The illegal website is a huge upsetting mood for me, I just wish I was never told about it.

letodoesart

Why bother posting two different qualities? If I post hight quality on here, and it goes to the website and everyone can see it, why should I post a lower res on furaffinity if the high resolution is already made public? I just wish that website would either promote your art you have posted publicly, or just not exist at all.

Put on your WIP's giant banner with RAID SL advertising!

Bigger artists like Fluffkevlar have basically given up. Its hard to avoid it. :c

There isn't really an answer to why people make these things public before you. Do they hate you? Do they hate anyone who uses patreon? Or do they think your stuff is too good to not share with the world? Your stuff is really amazing btw. Some artists might not take it well. There are those who lose all motivation if a WIP pic is leaked. Some accepted it as "part of the business", falling back to that last part I said before. FluffKevlar being one who is pretty down with it. People just like his work so much they want to share it, you can't really help it. That said, I'm not much a fan of PL, but that may be because of one artist who took part in the early days. Or maybe I gave in to a certain group of people who looked down upon their work, and how things progressed. A combination of factors made me break ties with this artist even though I still love their previous work. To end it of, this image is an example of how bad of a drm PL can enforce: https://u18chan.com/uploads/data/13325/wew_2_u18chan.gif Randomised watermark shapes, moving around details of the image. And this is a per user generated thing, allowing to pinpoint who and when they downloaded the image. Artists are allowed to protect their work, but this was taking it too far in my opinion.

I'm not sure what to do. Good luck with either choice you choose. Someone should take that pesky website down.

You should file a DMCA takedown against sites that host your Patreon content for free, that should mostly fix it.

letodoesart

Preferable not, as I don't want to give away my real address, name and other sensitive personal information. I'll come up with a different solution.
