So I've received some complaints from a person, saying I draw too much of my own original characters and that I am not original nor studying/experimenting with my artwork at all which stops them from supporting me.

this leads me here to ask you guys, do you support me for my original characters, or fanart copyrighted characters or just want to support me in general?

I don't really look at myself as a person that survives off of drawing copyrighted fanart characters, since it's easier to gain a fanbase from those and harder to gain a fanbase from original characters, hence I don't draw much of fanart and more exploring with my own characters.

please be honest as this is to help me improve my contents.

I am just as confused as to why if people dislike for what I create, they would come directly to me and talk about it, not to their friends..

I harshly disagree with that person. I follow and support you for the quality of the art, and I've seen huge improvement in the skill of your art in the time that I've been a supporter. You've experimented with light, water, fur effects, animation, etc. Having it all be your original characters makes you ORIGINAL. That person likely expects you to make fanart of established characters *because that's what most artists do*.

Keep making what you want to make, keep experimenting at the pace you like, because it's brought you so far already. Every piece you make is different from the previous: some artists do YCH's and then you'll see them submit 10 of the same character with different palettes. You do the opposite of this and that's FANTASTIC.

Support you because I like you and your art. I don’t understand their complaint, to be honest. You’ve also shown that you’ve been experimenting with your art style in your time lapse animations, so they clearly didn’t look at the content you’re posting.

Well you answer your question, I support you in general. It kinda urks me a bit just knowing that someone stopped supporting you strictly because of that and in all honesty I think it's a good movement. I love seeing studies, experimental things and especially original content. I find there's some lack of personality behind non original characters because at that point the artist mostly only shines though the style. This is just me personally, I definitely can't speak for anyone else, but this is what my trained mind likes to see.

You are the artist. As in artist, you should draw whatever the fuck you want. Just ignore this person. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to support you.

I am personally supporting you because I enjoy your work and I can see the enjoyment you get out of it through your work. You're a good friend and want to do what I can to support you and to help you get better through being able to commit your time to art. Patreon is primarily for supporting artists not for getting a product back out of it, so you continue as you are and your loyal followers will continue to support you ^_^ Pay no heed to the selfish people who are expecting to control your content just because they're giving you money. They can go get their content from other artists who draw what they're after.

Uhm? I joined your patreon because I like your artstyle. I'm here because no matter that you draw, your craft has been amazing to look at and experience. If this person wanted you to draw something different they could have been more productive about it by approaching you for a commission.

In all honesty it is up to you. I have to say the original characters are rather cute, to see the shananagas that they get up too. But the truth is the Bodi pics from Rock Dog were also awesome. So I also enjoy seeing fan art too. It would be cool to see a 25-75 split. 25% fan art with 75% original art. But yet again. Up to you.

Your fan-art is excellent, but I’m much more interested in your original characters, creations, and ideas. It’s why I support your Patreon and I honestly can’t imagine someone complaining about it.

I support you because of your skill and determination your dreams and goals as an artist are the reason I support you. But if I put that aside and look at you purely on what you draw, I think the fact that you’re creating your own characters your own world tropaz island (I hope I spelt that right) is inspiring you are an incredible artist you have this creativity a lot of other artists don’t have. I like that you don’t rely on fan base work to gain your following you gained your following because you’re smart and incredibly talented in ways I don’t know how to describe. You should definitely do whatever you specifically want to do when you want to do it, anything less would stifle creativity and lesson your enjoyment of arting. Period For what I'm looking for, I first found you via your Zootopia works and (as obvious by my username) placed part of my decision to patreon back off the hopes of seeing similar works. I donate to a fair handful of Zootopia-focused artists so I can do my part in giving incentive to keep new Zootopia content flowing. As with most things, I'd think a mix would be best (as long as you enjoy it) to give new perspectives on established characters (which can be fun in itself) and to keep things fresh with your own OC. Some fandom stuff( ex: rocket, zootopia, other things, etc) to bring in new patrons and scratch the fandom itch and original characters to, well, keep things original 'round here. Not sure what you mean by your last sentence though, wouldn't it be better if backers held a conversation directly with creators about expectations instead of throwing around general complaints in the comments? That way there's no drama.

I support you no matter what, it’s really not the art that makes me do it, I just want to help out. But well a bonus is that you make fantastic art and I don’t think you make too much fan art. You make more original art. So just keep up the amazing work and get more experience with new ways to draw and animate.

I would assume the reason the complaints went to you directly was as a form of constructive feedback, despite the tone. That said, what brought me here was seeing the work you've done with your own characters. What they complain about was pretty much the main appeal to me.

I'm a bit confused about the "saying [... ]I am not [...] studying/experimenting with my artwork at all" - part. I'd say that this is something one can not complain about since you by yourself are the only one who can tell whether or not you're studying/experimenting something(and how deep you wanna go into a subject). Anyway, all those recent animations you did have been hella experimentive and also very interesting/motivativing to do something similiar on my own :P The Content I want to see is the content that you want to create, your creativity, your mind - that's like the best part; checking Patreon and being surprised by your new ideas, poses, scenes, just everything

In my opinion, drawing your own characters makes you *more* original than using existing characters. That is one of the (many) reasons why I support you here, since you cannot commission yourself. And I already know you like to experiment, which makes it even more interesting to watch you grow.

Important question. I personally support you because I like what you produce and I would like to see that continue. Some people may want variety, but it doesn’t bother me that your primary offering is Leto and Pebble or sometimes Nick.

I support you because of your artwork. I’d like to see your skills continue to improve, so that means more practice, so that means I’d better chip in to meet the costs of you doing so. That’s true no matter what you draw—but if I was going to express a preference, I prefer your original characters. Existing characters already have a canon storyline, but your characters are your own.

I think most of us are here because we like your art-style, you are friendly and you have some nice OCs. In my opinion you should always draw what you like, but i wouldn't say no if you decided to draw more characters of your tropaz universe, like that GShep.

I just started to follow you. And what drew me to you is your art in general. You do awesome, no matter what you draw! And whether you want to draw your own characters or other things, that's up to you! I'll still throw money at you.

I've been following your stuff for a while, but never in any 'official' capacity. Mainly just keeping an eye on your profile for any good posts. Originally, I started following you was your shitposts. They're great quality with a good sense of humour. I don't follow you for your original characters, or your fanart, I follow you for your style and your sense of humour mainly. That said, I do think you should branch out and experiment more, and even if it's with the same characters, working on getting them into different outfits and different scenarios helps to diversify things quite a bit (I really love the different outfits you've drawn Leto in for example)
