This idea is still very much in the early stages, but I’m tinkering around with it. I want to create a character that’s a sort of cursed swordswoman, the wielder of an ancient sword that turns her more and more monstrous as she uses it.

With this design there were a couple ideas I wanted to convey. First, this thing is basically a giant slab of bronze that no normal human being could ever effectively use. Second, that the blade is an ancient beat up artifact that has been mounted into a modern hilt. This character is still a part of my modern setting, so I wanted to highlight the strong contrasts between old and new.

Seeing how raw and jagged the cursed blade part is, and how clean the hilt is (no idea how it got attached to that other than with FlexTape), would it be safe to assume that the hilt might get affected by the blade over time too?

I drew the blade as all jagged and oxidized because it’s ancient and has been used for fighting monsters for thousands of years. If anything the magic of the sword has preserved it, after all it’s been through. I think the hilt would absolutely need to be replaced here and there, but mostly because it’s being swung around by a demonically strengthened super combatant.

Love the cracked and wrecked blade design, really highlights the ancient and occult nature of the weapon. Can't wait to see what kind of powerful corruption it visits on its wielder.
